Welcome

Now in its 25th year, our annual conference is one of the largest events of its kind in the UK. It is the perfect opportunity for plan issuer companies, administrators, advisors and providers to meet, network and discuss the trends defining the industry. We are delighted that YBS Share Plans is our major sponsor once again.

It’s a time- and cost-efficient way to:

  • share best practice;
  • discuss new developments;
  • enhance technical knowledge; and
  • network with share plan professionals.

Delivered by industry experts through a series of seminars and case studies (all with CPD points accreditation), the conference schedule also includes panel discussions with regulators and policymakers, keynote speeches from senior business leaders and academics, plus abundant networking opportunities throughout the day and at the post-conference drinks reception.

Who should attend

Share plans specialists, company secretaries, finance directors, HR directors, lawyers, accountants, advisors, communications experts, academics, consultants and supporters of employee share plans from across the UK, Europe and beyond.

This year our conference theme is ‘The Future of Share Plans’. As we celebrate ProShare’s 25th year, we are looking to the future. What will help employee share ownership reach an even wider audience in the next 25 years? How will we engage harder-to-reach parts of the workforce? What role should technology play in running effective and efficient share plans both at home and abroad? How can the share plans industry harness the power of new technology – Augmented Reality, Blockchain, Bitcoin, machine learning, demographic change and other trends and technologies? How can we hard-wire fairness and equality of opportunity into share plans? We are including sessions on these topics and many more, including the science of behavioural economics, gender pay gap reporting, financial capability and wellbeing, and best practice on the use of digital and social media.

Our aim is to set employee share ownership in a broader context and to enhance delegates’ knowledge of fields with relevance to share plans, with an emphasis on their practical application.  We will be retaining favourites such as plan issuer case studies, technical sessions, and perspectives on global developments.

Keynote speakers

Nicola Horlick, CEO Money&Co

Keynote - Nicola Horlick

Nicola joined S.G. Warburg as a graduate trainee.  She worked with Leonard Licht, one of the leading fund managers in the City during the 1980s, and together, they built up the Specialist Equity team of what became Mercury Asset Management and was appointed a director in 1989.
In 1997, Nicola left Morgan Grenfell and set up SG Asset Management for the French bank, Société Générale.  The initial target for funds under management was £5 billion in five years.  This target was reached after two years and within three years, the firm’s funds under management had reached £7 billion.

In 2004, Nicola set up Bramdean Asset Management LLP with Sir Derek Higgs, with the business launching at the beginning of 2005.  Bramdean ran a number of alternative investment mandates before selling the bulk of its business to Aberdeen Asset Management at the end of 2009.  Bramdean continued to create and structure innovative new investment vehicles, primarily for the film industry through Derby Street Films.

Nicola is now the CEO of Money&Co, a debt crowdfunding business aiming to connect investors looking for a better rate of interest on their cash, with businesses seeking finance to grow.   Money&Co. received its full FCA approval earlier this year and also has approval from HMRC to act as an ISA manager.

Dame Stephanie Shirley

Dame Stephanie Shirley resized
Inspirational. Trailblazing. Uncompromising. All three of these words have been used to describe our afternoon keynote speaker, Dame Stephanie ‘Steve’ Shirley. Dame Stephanie has led a truly extraordinary life, and has overcome challenges and heartbreak that would floor most people. The original IT entrepreneur and female founder, Dame Stephanie started her software company Freelance Programmers (later renamed F.I. Group) in 1962 and floated it on the London Stock Exchange in the 1980s. Having shared much of the equity with her largely female staff, the successful flotation turned many into millionaires overnight. Later known as Xansa plc, the company received a ProShare award in 2004 and we are absolutely thrilled to have Dame Stephanie return this time to speak at our conference.
